Dana D. Chestney, 61, of Bellemead went home to be with the Lord Sunday afternoon April 3, 2016 at her residence following a lengthy battle with breast cancer.
She was born September 12, 1954 in Altoona a daughter of the late Frederick E. Kyper and Darlene R. (Reidenbaugh) Kyper. She married Jeffrey A. Chestney on October 23, 1976 in Altoona.
Surviving are her husband Jeffrey; a son Jeffrey A. Chestney, II of New York City, NY; a daughter Jennifer A. Chestney of Altoona; her mother Darlene R. Kyper of Bellemead; and a brother Steve Kyper and his wife Susan of Ebensburg.
Dana was preceded in death by an infant son Jarrett A. Chestney on June 27, 1983.
Mrs. Chestney was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, Altoona.
She was a 1972 graduate of Altoona Area High School.
Dana retired as a staff assistant from Penn State Altoona on June 30, 2015 after 25 ½ years’ service.
She enjoyed fund-raising for breast cancer awareness, and in fact was the co-founder of “Girls Night Out Altoona, Inc.” She also was in charge of “THON” at Penn State Altoona for two years and enjoyed family vacations and golfing.
Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday April 6, 2016 and 10-11 a.m. Thursday April 7, 2016 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday with Pastor Duane Coy officiating. Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to Dr. Craig Meyers’ breast cancer research at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. Gifts may be made payable to Penn State Hershey.
