Doris Jeanne (Henchey) Buchanan

            Doris Jeanne (Henchey) Buchanan died Monday morning January 22, 2018 at UPMC Altoona.

            She was born in Altoona a daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Lightner) Henchey. She married Robert Frank Buchanan on August 28, 1948. He preceded her in death April 24, 2006. They are the parents of five children. She then married James Rhodes in 2015.

            Surviving are her husband, James; five children, daughter Cheryl Rupp and her husband Larry; son Richard F. Buchanan and his wife Mary Ann; son Douglas S. Buchanan and his wife Sherrie all of Altoona; son Mark H. Buchanan and his wife Michal of York; daughter Kris Hallinan and her husband Christopher of Altoona; eleven grandchildren, Robin Smithgall, Matt Rupp, Joshua Buchanan, Ryan Buchanan, Scott Buchanan, Julie Sheetz, Rachel Buchanan, Rebekah Buchanan, Trevor Hallinan, Connor Hallinan, Lindsey Hallinan; fifteen great grandchildren, Laney, Maddie, Jordan, Isabella, Brennan, Brooklyn, Bailee, Brynn, Chase, Kenzie, Nico, Liam, Elliott, Hudson and Sawyer; three brothers, Thomas Henchey of York; Richard Henchey of Hurricane, WV; and William Henchey of Altoona.

            Doris was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Murtif.

            She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg.

            She was also an active member of the former Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church and Jaggard United Methodist Church where she held several board positions.

            Doris was a life member of Delphi Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; a Past President of the former Eldorado Kiwanianne’s; a member of Contact Altoona; and a member of Faith Riders at Zion Lutheran Church.

            Doris was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events.

            Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. Thursday January 25, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, 500 Allegheny Street, Hollidaysburg, where a Celebration of Life service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Evelyn Madison officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, in care of Jaffa Shrine, PO Box 1984, Altoona, PA 16603-1984 or to Zion Lutheran Church, 500 Allegheny Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
