Gladys R. “Glady” Charles, 85 of Altoona died Thursday April 14, 2016 at UPMC Altoona.

            She was born March 12, 1931 in Altoona a daughter of the late Harry and Ruth (McChestney) Cunningham. She married Paul C. “Red” Charles, Jr. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2013.

            Surviving are two daughters, Sherry Dodson of Altoona and Sandra Charles of Cresson; ten grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and extended family.

            Glady was preceded in death by a son Paul C. Charles, III and a sister Grace Ray.

            She was a graduate of Altoona High School.

            She had previously been employed as a machinist by SKF Industries and retired as an interior designer from Wolf Furniture.

            Gladys was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins and also Penn State.

            She was formerly a member of the Red Hat Society.

            Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Sunday April 17, 2016 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Duane Coy officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
