Jack R. “Slug” Oswalt, 84, formerly of Altoona, died early Saturday morning March 18, 2017 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
He was born May 2, 1932 in Altoona a son of the late Gerald C., Sr. and Iona M. (Burge) Oswalt. He married Mary M. Eberhart-Patterson July 29, 1979 in Altoona. She preceded him in death October 25, 1996.
Surviving are two children, son Blaine V. Oswalt; daughter Louise Graff; two step-daughters, Deborah Harpster; Barbara Carlson; two step-sons, Michael E. Patterson; Robert E. Patterson, III; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; a brother Robert M. Oswalt and his wife Donna of Altoona and two sister-in-law’s, Marian Oswalt of Altoona and Carol Oswalt of Washington.
Jack was preceded in death by a son, Curtis Ray Oswalt and a daughter Jackie Oswalt; a sister Althea M. Chilcote and brothers Huber C. Oswalt, Gary L. Oswalt, William L. Oswalt, Gerald C. “PJ” Oswalt, Jr. and a sister-in-law Ann Oswalt.
Mr. Oswalt was a member of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God.
Jack was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He retired as a dock worker and truck driver from Ward Trucking after 15 years’ service.
Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in April at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
