John N. "Jack" Grigg

John “Jack” Grigg, 79, Altoona, died Wednesday at UPMC Altoona after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in South Fork, son of the late Lucy Grigg and Charles Grigg. On Jan. 26, 1963, he married Judith Bruckner in Johnstown.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years; two sons: Keith (Renee) and Kurt (Rosy); a brother, Charles Wayne (Dorothy) Grigg; and brothers-in-law: William (Loraine) Bruckner and Ed Stansbury.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Eckenrode (Raymond Eckenrode); and a brother, Keith Grigg.

He is also survived by four grandchildren: Tyler, Collin (Sarah Garlena), Victoria and Parker; and a great-grandchild, Harper Grigg; grandchildren: Brittany, Ryan and Amanda Grigg; and their mother, Jacqueline Ronan.

Jack was a 1957 graduate of Bedford High School. He also served his country in the U.S. Army. He was employed by Norfolk Southern, and retired in 1998 after 36 years of service.

He attended Broad Avenue Methodist Church.

Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating with family and many friends. He was a master gardener who enhanced the neighborhood, and filled cupboards with homemade canned peaches, salsa, and pickles.

Jack and his much loved wiener dog, Gigi, were well known celebrities in the Wehnwood/Penn State Altoona area.

Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2018, at the funeral home, the Rev. James C. House officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
