Joyce V. (Hudson) Schimminger

            Joyce V. “Grams” Schimminger, 86 of Altoona died Friday evening September 28, 2018 at her residence.

            She was born November 25, 1931 in Altoona a daughter of the late Charles and Margaret (Slogenhop) Hudson. She married John H. Schimminger on January 4, 1951 at the former St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Altoona. He preceded her in death April 3, 2003.

            Surviving are five children, son John C. Schimminger and his wife Vicki of Lebanon, PA; son Bruce G. Schimminger and his wife Lorraine of Hollidaysburg; daughter Kimberly Ann Schimminger; daughter Tina Carol Schimminger; and daughter Joy Margaret Schimminger all of Altoona; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

            Joyce was preceded in death by a grandson, Landon.

            Mrs. Schimminger was a member of Simpson Temple United Parish, Altoona.

            She was a 1950 graduate of Altoona High School.

            Joyce retired as a nurses aid from the Allegheny Lutheran Home, Hollidaysburg after many years’ service. She also enjoyed many years as a volunteer at the Home.

            She enjoyed Bingo, jig-saw puzzles and was a fan of Pittsburgh Pirates baseball and Pittsburgh Steelers football.

            Friends will be received from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday October 1, 2018 and 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday October 2, 2018 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. James C. House officiating. Entombment will be made at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

            The family suggests memorial donations be made to Home Nursing Agency Family Hospice, 201 Chestnut Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601.
