Paul F. “Benny” “Pappy” Weaver, 87 formerly of Sinking Valley died early Monday morning April 11, 2016 at Golden Living Center – Hillview.
He was born September 25, 1928 in Altoona a son of the late Murl R. and Pearl Edith (Brickley) Weaver. He married Janet M. Ferguson on January 14, 1948 in Cumberland, MD. She preceded him in death February 28, 2009.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet M. Myers and her husband Jean-Michel Guldmann of Columbus, OH; and Cheryl A. Hatch and her husband Dennis of Altoona; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; a sister, Bette Schapanski of Martinsburg; and a brother Richard Weaver and wife Carol of Flint, MI; and special friends, Denny and Janie Roland of Greenwood.
Paul was preceded in death by a son Timothy L. Weaver on June 19, 2013; a brother Earl Weaver and four sisters, Louetta Carles, Dorothy Quarry, Lois Chevalier and Hope Mock.
Mr. Weaver attended East End United Methodist Church, Altoona.
He attended schools in the Altoona Area and been self-employed as an independent contractor.
He was a member of Hiram Lodge #616, F & A.M.; Jaffa Shrine where he was a member of the Provost Guard followed by the Clowns; he was a member of the Hillbillies where he was Rabban of the Clan; he was a trustee of Jaffa for many years and also was Santa Claus for many years for the Jaffa Kiddies Christmas party; he was a former member of the Chief Logan Forest #131, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; he was also a member of the Unter Uns and a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society.
Paul enjoyed anything to do with working with his hands; singing in a barber shop quartet; and was an avid hunter and member of Camp Roebuck.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday April 15, 2016 where a masonic funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. and 10-11 a.m. Saturday April 16, 2016 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Richard N. Henry, Jr. officiating. Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, care of Jaffa Shrine, PO Box 1984, Altoona, PA 16603-1984.
