            Rev. Arthur D. “Art” Shotts, 70 of Birmingham went home to be with the Lord Monday afternoon January 23, 2017 at his residence after a five month illness.

            He was born April 3, 1946 in Vandergrift a son of the late Howard Glenn and Betty Ellen Rose (Kepple) Shotts. He married Joan Weidman on October 23, 2004 in Hershey.

            Surviving are his wife, Joan; three children, daughter Laura Shotts, daughter Ericka Johnstonbaugh, son Justin Shotts; three grandchildren Joshua Regener, Shane Regener and Cora Shotts; brother Jerry Shotts; sister Tammy Lunsford; niece Brandy Reep; nephew Daryl John; great nieces, Cassandra and Klarissa Reep; great nephew Aiden Reep; four step-children Jeannene Johnson (Hubert); Doreen Armstrong (Steven); Deborah Rohrer (Timothy) and Ruthann Sweeney; eight step-grandsons and five step great granddaughters; and his former spouse Linda Rearick.

            Pastor Shotts was a US Air Force veteran serving during the Viet Nam war.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree followed by a Masters’ degree in Criminal Justice and then followed by a Master of Divinity degree.

            Art was Minister within the United Methodist Church with 24 years’ service, most recently serving as the Pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church, Bellwood.

            He had previously been employed as the administrator of the Centre County Youth Center from 1981 to 1992.

            He enjoyed reading, drawing, hunting, fishing and gardening

            Friends will be received from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday January 27, 2017 at Calvary United Methodist Church, Bellwood where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Y. Norris officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the church immediately following. Future interment will be made at the Birmingham Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, Montana 59004 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
