            Richard Gorsuch “Dick” “Bumpa” McDowell, 94 of Altoona died Tuesday evening July 26, 2016 at the Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.

            He was born March 24, 1922 in Altoona a son of the late Charles and Catherine (Gorsuch) McDowell. He married Lois May Nearhoof on June 14, 1946 in Altoona. She preceded him in death on October 30, 1989.

            Surviving are a daughter Sharon A. Logan and her husband Dick of Cresson; two granddaughters, Kimberly Rosenau and her husband Kevin of Holland, MI; and Dana Logan-O’Connor and her husband Greg of Washington, DC; and three great grandchildren, Kyle, Kelly and Kory Rosenau.

            Dick was preceded in death by a brother, Willard McDowell.

            Mr. McDowell was a member of Jaggard-First United Methodist Church, Altoona.

            He was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School.

            He was a U.S. Army veteran serving with the 126th General Hospital corps during WWII attaining the rank of Sergeant. While serving, Dick earned the American Theatre Asiatic Pacific Theatre ribbon with two bronze stars and the Philippine Liberation ribbon with one bronze star.

            Mr. McDowell retired as a machinist from Crane Company after twenty-five years’ service. He had also been employed after retirement, for M&T Bank and spent ten years with the maintenance department of the Altoona Area School District. 

            Dick enjoyed Altoona Curve baseball games, Penn State football and most all sporting events.

            He was a member of Logan Lodge #490 F. & A. M.; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Chief Logan Forest #131; Jaffa Shrine where he was a member of the Greeters; and the Eldorado Kiwanis Club.

            Friends will be received from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday July 29, 2016 and 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday July 30, 2016 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Marcus Mills and Rev. Evelyn Madison co-officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to the Eldorado Kiwanis Miracle League, PO Box 1493, Altoona, PA 16603.
