              Robert E. Akins , 88 of Juniata, went home to our Lord on Monday April 24, 2017 after a brief illness at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annaopolis, MD.

               He was born September 13, 1928 in Juniata, a son of the late Roy and Eleanor (Henchey) Akins. He married the love of his life, Dorothy M. Rabold, on November 16, 1946 and they celebrated 59 years of marriage before her death on February 21, 2006.

               Surviving are her three children, Janet L. Dollar and husband Husky of Juniata, Debbie K. Lingenfelter and husband Russ of Milton, WV, and Robert R. and wife Donna (Wertz) of Chester, MD; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

               He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Dale Akins.

               Bob was an electrician and previously worked as such at the State of PA unemployment office in Altoona.

               Bob was a member of the Jaffa Shrine and Logan Lodge #490 F&AM.

               He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his love of music, his ability to play many instruments and participating in jam sessions anywhere he happened to be. Bob and Dot loved traveling and singing together; they visited every state in the USA except for Alaska in their motorhome.

               He also loved spending winters in Florida and summers in the Thousand Islands region of New York.

               Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday April 27, 2017, where a Masonic service will take place at 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday April 28, 2017 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, a funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday with Pastor Clare Lowell officiating.

               In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, in care of the Jaffa Shrine, P.O. Box 1984, Altoona, PA 16603.
