Clair D. “Moonie” Ferguson, 96 of Altoona died Tuesday evening February 13, 2024, at Graystone Manor, Bellemead.
He was born December 18, 1927, in Altoona, a son of the late Frank M. and Josephine E. (Kough) Ferguson. He married Joanne Sylvia Chamberlain who preceded him in death February 16, 1983.
Surviving are three children, daughter Denise J. Taylor of Altoona, daughter Faith C. Keibler (Gary) of Apollo, and son Michael T. Ferguson (Laray) of Altoona; daughter-in-law, Cheryl A Ferguson of Altoona; five grandchildren; five great grandsons; his companion of many years, Dona Fitzgerald; and numerous extended family members and close friends.
Moonie was preceded in death by a son, Edward Dean Ferguson on February 23, 2009; a great grandson; and numerous siblings, he is the last surviving member of his family.
He was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran.
Moonie was an over-the-road truck driver for most of his career, having been employed by Eastern Express, among others. He was well known to Altoona’s East End for his lawnmower repair expertise.
He enjoyed traveling, especially in his motorhome, cooking, white water rafting, model trains, collecting antiques, camping, and spending time at deer camp.
Moonie was an active life member and past officer of the Bavarian Aid Society; an active past officer of the Fraternal Order of Clubs; a member of the Swiss Club; and a 50-year member of F.O.P. Lodge #57.
There will be no viewing.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bavarian Aid Society in the near future, date, and time to be announced later.
