Rosetta “Rosie” Carr, 80 of Altoona died Monday evening April 22, 2024, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born January 24, 1944, in Altoona, a daughter of the late Stanley Phillip Carr and Mamie Melvy (Brown) Carr.
Surviving are a daughter, Jalonda M. Carr of Altoona; nine grandchildren, Blake Walker (Jill), Brent Murphy, Jason Carr-Keefe, Travis Carr-Keefe, David Carr-Owens, Zoey Carr, Zada Carr, Miranda Cartwright, and Justin Cartwright; a great grandson, Elijah, expected in May, her twin sister, Loretta Carr of Altoona, and the following other siblings, Pastor Cleo Carr, Jacqueline Lightfoot, Rodney Howling all of Johnstown, Brenda Howling of Houston, TX, Deborah Coleman, Sylvia Carr, Charlene Carr, and Stanley Carr, Jr. all of Johnstown.
Rosie was preceded in death by a daughter, Melanie Rose “Mel” (Carr) Cartwright on October 20, 2022, her long-time life companion, Gilbert “Gil” Allen in 2016, brother Eugene Brawley, and sister Audrey Carr.
Ms. Carr was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Altoona where she served as an usher. She was also a member of the Sally Harris Missionary Society.
She was a 1963 graduate of Altoona High School.
Rosie retired as a certified nursing assistant from the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home after many years of service. She was previously employed by Sylvania, Proctor-Silex, and Boyer Candy.
She enjoyed playing the lottery, jig-saw puzzles, cross-word puzzles, going out to eat, and going to watch movies with Gil. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday May 2, 2024, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Keith Moore officiating.
Entombment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona.
