Betty Jane Mock, McGaheysville, Va., 96, formerly of Altoona, died Sunday at her home after a brief illness.
She was born in Osceola Mills, daughter of Charles Russell and Josephine Lucy Vaughn. She was married to Charles E. Mock Jr., and he died Dec. 8, 2017, after more than 76 years of marriage.
Surviving are four children: Richard Charles of Acapulco, Mexico, and Columbia, S.C., Jack Lee and wife, Ann, of McGaheysville, Va., Karen Jo of Edisto Island, S.C., and Jodi Lynn Gianfrancesco and husband, Vincent, of Cranberry Township; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Joanna Ruth Davis of Columbus, Ohio, Barbara Marie Park of Altoona and Peggy Ann Fochler of Smyrna, Ga.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Cory Kenneth Sullivan of McGaheysville, Va.; a brother, Robert Russell Vaughn; and three sisters: Shirley Maxine Beatty, Doris Jean Geiner and Nancy Lee Hamer.
Betty was a long-time resident of Altoona and she and her husband relocated to McGaheysville, Va., 10 years ago. They were long-time members of the First Baptist Church in Altoona, where she served as a deaconess and, with her husband, were very involved in activities for the youth. She was an avid homemaker, cook and seamstress.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, 1209 17th St., Altoona. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
