                Charles V. Brady

               July 17, 1919 – June 7, 2017

 

               Charles V. Brady, 97, Altoona, died Wednesday afternoon at UPMC Altoona surrounded by his family.

               He was born in Altoona, son of the late Charles P. and Stella (Richards) Brady.

               He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred, in December 2010 and is survived by his three daughters: Jeanne Liebal and husband, George, of LaPlata, MD, Dolores “Dee” Shellenberger and husband, Joseph, of Altoona, and Mildred “Midge” Frost of Hollidaysburg; 5 grandchildren: Christopher Liebal, Todd Shellenberger, Jennifer (Liebal) McConnell, Ryan Shellenberger, and Stephanie (Frost) McAleer; and 12 great-grandchildren.

               He was also preceded in death by great-grandson, Devin Frost, Son-in-law, Michael Frost, and granddaughter, Kelly Frost.

               Charles was a 1939 graduate of Altoona High School and retired in August 1984 with 27 years of service from Altoona Post Office as a mail carrier. Charles served as a Corporal in World War II under General George S. Patton in the 10th Armored Division, 11th Tank Battalion. He was awarded two purple hearts during his proud tenure of service, which included his involvement in the Battle of the Bulge and the siege of Bastogne.

               He was a life-long member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona. He was devoted to his Catholic faith and daily watched Mass on TV and prayed the rosary.

               Charles enjoyed spending time with his family and sharing his war stories.

               Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 and 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona with the Rev. Ronald Osinski as celebrant. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
