David J. Bickel, 90 of Altoona died Wednesday May 9, 2018 at home.
He was born November 4, 1927 in Altoona a son of the late Charles and Eva (Laufer) Bickel. He married Barbara Jean Yohn on September 28, 1949 in Cumberland, MD.
Surviving are his wife; two children, David Bickel of Altoona and Jeffrey Bickel and wife Lori of Woodbury; three grandchildren, James Snow, Melissa Baldwin, and Jarrett Bickel; one great grandson, Lucian Bickel; two sisters, Verna Mills and Arlene Bailey; a sister-in-law Janet Painter and husband Gene; former daughter-in-law, Nancy Bickel; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Eichelberger; a brother, Charles, and a sister, Alma Dumm.
He was member of St. James Lutheran Church, where he held various church office positions and belonged to Married Couples Sunday School Class.
David was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII.
He retired from the Altoona Vo-Technical School after 20 years of service.
David enjoyed bowling, woodworking, sports, his friends, and going on family outings.
Friends will be received Friday May 11, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, where a funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 12, 2018.
