Deborah Jeanne (Gority) Smith

Deborah J. Smith, 67 of Altoona died early Thursday morning August 9, 2018 at UPMC Altoona.

            She was born April 9, 1951 in Altoona a daughter of the late William Clair “Dewey” and Jeanne Ernestine (Hunter) Gority.

            Surviving are two daughters, Tracie L. Garland (Harry “Fritz”) of Altoona; Dawn M. Logan (Mark) of Altoona; a son, Shawn P. Smith of Altoona; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two siblings, a sister Sandra Milnes (James) of Cresson; a brother William Gority of Altoona; her former husband, Terrance L. Smith; and numerous extended family.

            Deborah was preceded in death by her step-father, Donald E. Gray; and a nephew, Edward Lebo.

            Ms. Smith was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona.

            She graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1969.

She retired from Bell Telephone in 1979 following ten years’ service.

Deborah was an avid Red Cross blood donor and volunteer at her church. She enjoyed playing cards, Bingo and reading.

Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday August 15, 2018 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a vigil service for the deceased will be held.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday August 16, 2018 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona.

Interment will be made at Rose Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 806 Eleventh Street, Altoona, Pennsylvania, 16602.
