George E. Espy, V.M.D., 97, formerly of Logan Township died early Sunday morning May 13, 2018 at Pennknoll Village, Bedford.
He was born November 30, 1920 in Altoona a son of the late Harry A. and Stella G. (McGarvey) Espy.
Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
George was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester E. Espy, Melvin P. Espy and Ronald H. Espy and a sister, Caroline Espy.
Dr. Espy was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church, Altoona.
He was a 1939 graduate of Altoona High School; a 1953 graduate of the Altoona Undergraduate Center (Pennsylvania State University) in Pre-Veterinary; and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia with a V.M.D.
George was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII attaining the rank of Second
Lieutenant in 1942; First Lieutenant in 1945 with the Veterinary Corps, Medical Department in the European Theatre; and finally as Captain with the Veterinary Corps, Medical Department Army Air Corps.
He was a member of Logan Lodge #490, F. & A.M.; Mountain Chapter #189; Mountain Commandery #10; Jaffa Shrine; and the Penn State Alumni Association; past president of Morrisons Cove Rotary Club.
Friends will be received from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday May 16, 2018 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. James C. House officiating. A masonic funeral service will be held during the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Altoona.
