Harold Ray Young Sr., 95, Altoona, died Wednesday May 30, 2018 at UPMC Altoona.
He was born May 8, 2018 in Altoona, son of the late George and Sarah (Gosnell) Young. On May 5, 1944, he married Dorothy Kearns, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 25, 1992.
Surviving are three children: Harold R. Young Jr., Mary Ann (Kevin) McGeary and James F. (Sandra) Young; eight grandchildren: Lisa, Natalie, Sean, Christopher, Caitlin, Lyndsay, Lauren and Carson; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Campbell; and two brothers: Donald and Fred Young.
Harold was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School, and he was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was well known as the face of Hanover Shoe Co., starting downtown Altoona in the early 1940s. Many customers followed him through the store’s move to the shopping center and to the Logan Valley Mall. Harold retired as a manager in 1988 with over 40 years of service.
He was a former member of Christ Second Lutheran Church, and Harold was a Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
Services will be private. Entombment will be made at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.
