Harry H. "Sonny" Cox

            Harry H. “Sonny” Cox, 78 of Altoona died early Tuesday morning August 7, 2018 at UPMC Altoona.

            He was born September 28, 1939 in Altoona a son of the late Harry E. and Elizabeth (Servello) Cox. He married Patricia R. Fudalski June 28, 1962 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona.

            Surviving are his wife, Patty; three daughters, Diana M. Waksmunski and her husband Richard of Hastings; Cheryl L. Walter and her husband Kevin of Altoona; Melissa M. Mosher and her husband Glenn II of Juniata; six grandchildren, Justin S. Cox (Amber Bryant); Jude A. Eckenrode; John A. Mosher-Johnson; Dalton L. Waksmunski; Alec R. Mosher; Shane A. Mosher; six great grandchildren, Aurora, Eric, Jocelyn, Matt, Cassie and Shane; five siblings, sister Della Anslinger of Altoona; brother Kenny Cox of Aberdeen, MD; brother Jack Cox of Altoona; brother Dan Cox of Ashville; sister Debbie Smith of Hollidaysburg; and numerous extended family.

            Sonny was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Donald and Raymond Cox and a sister Betty Filer.

            Mr. Cox was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona.

            He was a U.S. Army veteran.

            He retired in 2001 as a painter from Longstreth Brothers Painting after over 30 years’ service.

            Sonny was an avid Altoona Area High School football fan and a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed fishing and trips to the beach, especially the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

             Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday August 9, 2018 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a vigil service for the deceased will be held.

             A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday August 10, 2018 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona, the Rev. Frank Scornaienchi officiating. Committal rites will be held at the church. Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.

             In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, Two Chatham Center, Suite 1520, 112 Washington Place, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 15219.
