Joanne Elizabeth (Benzel) Pfeffer, 92 of Altoona died early Saturday morning November 9, 2019 at her residence.
She was born April 1, 1927 in Altoona a daughter of George A. and Edith A. (Lego) Benzel. She married George N. Pfeffer on May 1, 1948 in Altoona. He preceded her in death December 13, 1998.
Surviving are three daughters, Deborrah A. Smith and her husband Dave of Lakemont; Gretchen S. Blackie and her husband Bob of Altoona; Sally L. Stetter and her husband Rick of Altoona; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Joanne was preceded in death by a brother Donald George “Skip” Benzel on August 7, 2019 and a great grandson, Brock Denny in 1998.
Mrs. Pfeffer was a member of the former Bell Avenue Baptist Church, Altoona.
She was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1948 graduate of Lewistown School of Nursing.
Joanne retired as a private duty nurse in 1983 after 36 years’ service.
She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and she also enjoyed traveling, old movies and watching Jeopardy!
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday November 14, 2019 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) with Paul Bottenfield officiating.
Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
