John P. “Spook” McCullough, 90 of Altoona died Wednesday evening January 9, 2019 at his residence following an extended illness.

            He was born January 15, 1928 in Altoona a son of the late Edward and Curly Fonda (Fetteroff) McCullough. He married Vivian A. Condon August 3, 1949 at Grace Methodist Church, Altoona. She preceded him in death March 14, 2016.

            Surviving are two daughters, Claudia M. Brown and her husband Michael; and Jennifer J. Haulman and her husband Charles all of Altoona; two grandchildren, Lindsey L. Port of Altoona and Zachary C. Haulman and his wife Allison of Hollidaysburg; and two great grandchildren, Reagan and Blake Port.

            Mr. McCullough was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Altoona.

            John was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School and a graduate of Altoona School of Commerce. He furthered his education by taking numerous courses at Penn State.

            He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII in the Pacific Theatre.

            He was employed as a public accountant for over sixty years working almost to the time of his passing.

            John was a member of Hiram Lodge #616, Free & Accepted Masons; a member of Jaffa Shrine, where he was a member and Past Captain of the Patrol/Directors Staff and a member of the Jaffa Hillbillies; and he was also a member of Park Hills Country Club. John and Vivian thoroughly enjoyed attending the Mid Atlantic Shrine Association convention “Shriners convention” each year.

            He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events, golfing and vacation trips to Stone Harbor. He had a fondness for Irish Setters and had many throughout his lifetime.

            Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday January 13, 2019 at Fairview United Methodist Church, 2214 Fifth Street, Altoona where a memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Sallie Swenson officiating.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 East Pleasant Valley Boulevard, Altoona, PA 16602 or to the Fairview United Methodist Church, 2214 Fifth Street, Altoona, PA 16601.
