John Richard Rago

            John Richard Rago, 88 of Altoona went home to be with the Lord Monday afternoon November 4, 2019 at his residence following an extended illness.

            He was born October 4, 1931 in Altoona a son of the late Louis and Clara (Valentino) Rago. He was twice married, first to Shirley Fickes who preceded him in death, then to Carole Jean Weber on September 17, 1988.

            Surviving are his loving wife, Carole; a daughter Andrea Hollern and her husband David of Altoona; step-children Michelle Adams-Shank and her husband Bruce of Hollidaysburg; Stephen Adams and his wife Joy of Shoals, IN; Christina Gibboney-Dojack and her husband Andrew of Madison, VA; two grandchildren, Corinne Hollern-Barstow and her husband Ben; and Justin Hollern; a great granddaughter, Briley Hollern; six step-grandchildren, Joshua Powers and his wife Kelly and their children Avey and Maya; Hannah Shank, Ethan Adams, Shaelin Adams, Eliah Dojack and Maksim Dojack; two brothers, Dominic Rago and Michael Rago and his wife Annette.

            John was preceded in death by his son, John Richard Rago, II; a sister Rachel Petrone; a sister-in-law Rose; and an infant step-grandson, Alexander N. Dojack

            Mr. Rago was a life member of First Church of Christ, Altoona.

            He was a 1950 graduate of Altoona High School and attended Altoona School of Commerce.

            John was a Korean War veteran serving in the US Air Force.

            He retired as a manager from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board after 31 years’ service.

            He enjoyed bowling, computers and his love of movies.

            John was a member of the Bavarian Aid Society and V.F.W. Bernard Albert Good Post 8685, (Ft. Apache).

            A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday November 11, 2019 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona with Pastor John Collins officiating.
