Paul L. “Nute” Ferguson, 82, Altoona, died unexpectedly Monday afternoon January 20, 2020 at UPMC Altoona.

He was born March 27, 1937 in Altoona, son of the late Frank Morrow and Josephine Ellen (Kough) Ferguson. On July 15, 1961, he married Clara E. Bratton at Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona.

Surviving are his wife, Clara; three daughters: Eileen M. (Bill) Mock of Duncansville, Sally J. (Brian) Ferguson-Avery of Danville and Susan P. (John) Yohn of Altoona; a son, Frank M. (Lucie) Ferguson of Altoona; 11 grandchildren: Linnea (Sean) Lake, Jared Ferguson, Sarah (Alex) Gates, Charles Avery, Kyle Smith, Henry (Tara) Avery, Phillip (Kaylee) Ferguson, Francesca (Logan) Ferguson, Kiersten Smith, Miles Ferguson-Avery and Levi Yohn; three great-grandchildren: Ava, Garrison and Ilse; a brother, Clair “Moonie” Ferguson (Dona Fitzgerald); and special family members: Michelle, Scott and Mason Stroud.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Frank and Edward; and three sisters: Jean Seidel, Ethel Roth and Janet Weaver.

Mr. Ferguson was a U.S. Army veteran attaining the rank of technical sergeant serving from 1956-59.

Nute retired as a postmaster from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service, having previously been employed there as an auto mechanic and then a supervisor.

He was a member of East End United Methodist Church, Altoona, and a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society and the Unter Uns Society.

Nute enjoyed spending time with his entire family as he was always “family first.” He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting and cooking.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Pastor Beth Pyles officiating. Entombment will be made at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
