Altoona Mirror Obituary
Pauline B. Lopez
Pauline B. Lopez, 92 of Altoona entered Heaven early Friday morning July 27, 2018. She was born February 10, 1926 in Bairdford, Pa to immigrant parents from Croatia, the late Joseph and Julia (Gurasevich) Bullick.
Pauline single-handedly raised three children who survive her, daughter Cassandra Lopez-Breezee and her husband John of Philipsburg; son, Jess Lopez and his wife Sarah of Altoona; son Joaquin Lopez and his wife Melissa of Harmony; three grandchildren, Parker Lopez, Lorena Lopez and Marcos Lopez.
Mrs. Lopez was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona Pa.
A proud American, upon graduation from Etna High School in 1943, Pauline moved to Charleston, SC to work as dietary aide at the U.S. Navy Shipyard as part of the WWII effort. She went on to graduate from Penn State in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. After relocating to Altoona in 1978, Pauline worked at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and Altoona Center as a Registered Dietician before her retirement in 1995 from the PA Department of Public Welfare. She was member of the American Dietetic Association.
Always a positive and inspirational soul to those who knew her, Pauline put her family and friend’s needs before her own, and her love of cooking was shared with so many around her. She was a life-long and passionate Penn State Football and Pittsburgh Pirate baseball fan and a devout Roman Catholic. Later in life, she enjoyed bible study with her friends from St. Rose while always looking to help others. She stayed active in life while still driving and visiting family into her 90s. Simply put, Pauline was the epitome of the notion of “family first” and she will be missed dearly.
Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. Monday July 30, 2018 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a vigil service for the deceased will be held.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 31, 2018. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in her honor to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 East Pleasant Valley Boulevard, Altoona, PA 16602.
