Richard Irvin “Pappy” “Dick” Morgan, 89, of Altoona died early Monday morning August 26, 2019 at UPMC Altoona.
He was born April 19, 1930 in Altoona a son of the late Jesse Irvin and Annetta Pearl (Rhodes) Morgan. He married Geraldine V. Baum on February 27, 1949 in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, Geraldine; five children, son Thomas I. Morgan and his wife, Susan L. of Altoona; daughter Deborah J. Bollinger and her husband, Kim of Tyrone; son Michael R. Morgan and his wife, Ann of Shavertown; daughter Patricia A. Young of Altoona; son Stephen J. Morgan and his wife, Susan A. of Poquoson, VA; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and a large extended family.
Richard was preceded in death by a grandson, Arrow Morgan Wildhack; a great grandson, Brant Hollis Bollinger; a brother, Hughy Merle Morgan; and a sister, Lois Jane Morgan Stewart.
Mr. Morgan was a member of Altoona First Church of the Brethren.
He was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School.
Dick retired as a maintenance technician from Sheetz following ten years’ service. Previously he had been employed as a carpenter for over thirty years in the Altoona area.
He enjoyed wood-working and computers, especially computer games.
He was a member of Hiram Lodge #616, F. & A.M.; a member of Jaffa Shrine where he was a member and a past president of the Jaffa Motor Corps; a Potentate’s Aid; a member of the Jaffa maintenance staff; and worked the pretzel machine at the Circus for numerous years.
Pappy was also a member of the Golden Eagles Motorcycle Club in the 1960’s (a Harley-Davidson club) and he also enjoyed traveling, especially to his home in Florida.
Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday August 28, 2019 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a Masonic funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. and 10-11 a.m. Thursday August 29, 2019 at Altoona First Church of the Brethren, 510 Fifth Street, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bill Pepper officiating. Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park.
