Robert L. Dean

                Robert Lee “Bob” “Pappy Dean” Dean, Sr., 82 of Altoona, died Sunday morning April 29, 2018 at UPMC Altoona.

                He was born June 17, 1935 in Altoona a son of the late John and Marian (Cummings) Dean, Sr.

He married Shirley Shoenfelt on July 12, 1975 in Altoona.

                Surviving are his wife, Shirley; five children, Michelle Dean Galando (Vernon), Robert Dean, Jr. (Shannon), Thomas Dean (Misti Adams), Justin Dean, Sr. (Danielle), and Derrick Dean, Sr. (Megan); twenty-three grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Jan Blum (Bill) and Marian Rickabaugh.

                He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Dean, Jr. and Fred Dean.

                He was a member of Grace Bible Church.

                Bob retired in 1996 from Veeder Root after 39 years of service.

                He was a 1954 graduate of Altoona High School.

                Bob was a U.S. Marine Veteran.

                He was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed Altoona High School Athletics, walking, his dog “Sadie” and especially his grandchildren.

                Friends will be received Tues May 1, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Weds. May 2, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, where a funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Committal will be held at Blair Memorial Park Cemetery.
