Robert M. Oswalt, 81 of Altoona died Wednesday October 4, 2017 at home.

               He was born July 21, 1936 in Altoona, a son of the late Gerald C., Sr. and Iona M. (Burge) Oswalt.  He married Donna J. Everhart on August 11, 1962 in Altoona.

               Surviving are his wife, Donna; three children, Stephen Paul and wife Kim of Roaring Spring, Mark Edward of Altoona and Jennifer Lynn Feathers and husband Jason of Altoona; ten grandchildren, Stephanie Bates, Danielle Oswalt, Ashley Oswalt, Ian Oswalt, Brandon Oswalt, Aislinn Feathers, Tyler Oswalt, Myranda Oswalt, Liam Feathers, and Rory Feathers; six great grandchildren, Baylor Haylett, Annabelle Haylett, Meya Inman, Joseph “JoJo” Inman, Heuston Inman, and C.J. Bates.  

               He was preceded in death by a sister, Althea Chilcote; and five brothers, Gerald, Jack, Huber, Gary and William.

               Mr. Oswalt was a member of Wehnwood United Methodist Church.

               He was a 1956 graduate of Altoona High School.

               He served 28 years in the U.S. Army National Guard and retired as a 1st sergeant.  He also retired from the PA Department of Public Welfare as an income caseworker.  

                Robert  volunteered at the Altoona Hospital and with the Altoona Area High School baseball team. He enjoyed going fishing and to family reunions. He was a supporter of live local music, theatrical performances, and athletic events, especially to watch his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Penn State football fan who enjoyed traveling to bowl games with friends.

               Friends will be received from Sunday October 8, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona. A funeral service will take place Monday October 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Wehnwood United Methodist Church, 2511 Juniata Gap Rd, Altoona, PA 16601 with Rev. Evelyn Madison officiating.
