Robert “Bob” H. Paul, 96 of Altoona formerly of Sinking Valley, was called home on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Maybrook Health and Rehabilitation Center.

               He was born August 2, 1921 in Altoona a son of the late Raymond H. and Margaret (Rutherford) Paul. He married Louise D. Brooks on January 19, 1946 in Altoona.

               Surviving are his loving wife of 71 years, Louise; two sons, David and wife Joyce of East Freedom and Robert of Sinking Valley; two grandchildren, Courtney Wessner and husband John and Ashley Lankey and husband Ron; and two great grandchildren.               

               He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, James, and Raymond Paul and a sister, Ruth Williams.

               He was a member of First United Church of Christ, Altoona.

               Bob was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran serving during WWII; he was extremely proud to serve his country as a radio operator with the 1052nd Signal Company and was rewarded the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and a Bronze Star.

               He retired twice, once as an upholster with the Pennsylvania Railroad then with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier.

               Bob enjoyed spending time with family, visiting the beach with Louise, whistling, and telling jokes; he was never seen without a pack of Tic Tacs in his shirt pocket. Bob could make anyone smile and always had a kind word or gesture for friends and strangers alike.

               Friends will be received Thursday January 11, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, where a funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bill Pepper officiating. Internment will be made at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery in Sinking Valley.
