Ronald Dale Chathams, 95 of Altoona died Monday afternoon April 22, 2019 at his residence.
He was born August 26, 1923 in Altoona a son of the late Joseph B. and Ocie Mae (Pensyl) Chathams. He married Frances Jean Shomo on October 14, 1961 in Bedford County.
Surviving are his wife; three children, daughter Sandra Jane Chathams of Buffalo Mills; son Thomas Paul Chathams of Altoona; daughter Diane Joyce White of Altoona; grandson Dustin Chathams of Buffalo Mills; granddaughter Tarah Logsdon of Hyndman; and three great grandchildren, Spencer, Elizabeth and Mason.
Dale was preceded in death by brothers, Ross and Ray Chathams and half-brothers, Glenn and Alton Turner.
Mr. Chathams was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona.
He was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School.
He was a U. S. Navy veteran serving during WWII as a Radio Operator First Class in the Atlantic Theatre aboard a minesweeper.
Dale retired from Schwarzenbach-Huber (Bomont Mills) on December 31, 1999 where he had been employed since 1957.
He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Unter Uns; a life member of the Air Force Association and a member of the Civil Air Patrol attaining the rank of Major after 20 years service.
Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday April 28, 2019 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Brian Sandell officiating.
Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations please be made to the Civil Air Patrol, Squadron 1504, 313 Spruce Street, Altoona, PA 16602.
