Ruthanna “Annie” Vogel, 93, of Altoona died Wednesday evening September 12, 2018 at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg.
She was born March 6, 1925 in Pleasantville a daughter of the late Ira and Jennie (Wright) Blackburn. She married Francis C. Vogel on March 1, 1949 and he preceded her in death on April 26, 1980.
Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia L. Eckels and her husband Randy of Mechanicsburg; longtime companion David Whitesel of Hollidaysburg; two grandchildren, Tiffany O’Donnell and her husband Brian; and Heather Maree Eckels all of Hershey; a great granddaughter Elizabeth O’Donnell; several nieces and nephews; and close friends Cindy, Kylie and Tyler Emery.
Ruthanna was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Todd Vogel and six brothers, Albert A., Arthur E., Ralph W., Rayford W., Samuel Robert and Ira “Blackie” Blackburn.
Mrs. Vogel was a former member of Fourth Street Church of God, Altoona.
She was a 1943 graduate of Altoona High School and retired in 1987 after 24 years’ service as clerk in the City of Altoona Treasurer’s office. She was previously employed as an aid in the cafeteria at Wright Elementary School and was previously employed by S.H. Kress & Co.
Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon) Monday September 17, 2018 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at noon with Rev. Jeanne Jacobson officiating. Interment will be made at Calvary Cemetery.
