Scott Douglas Edwards, 48 of Altoona passed away Thursday evening November 2, 2017 at UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh following complications due to cancer surgery.
He was born February 2, 1969 in Altoona a son of Larry L. and Cheryl D. (Cogan) Edwards.
Surviving are his father, Larry L. Edwards and his wife Susan L. of Altoona; his mother, Cheryl D. Fronauer and her husband Frank M. of Davenport, FL; a sister, Sheri L. Kabo and her husband Jason of Henderson, NV; maternal grandparents, John F. “Jack” and Marguerite Cogan; uncle John Steven “Steve” Cogan and his wife Peggy; aunt Barbara Hileman and her husband Fred, all of Altoona; two nieces, Madeline and Reese Kabo; and numerous extended family members.
Scott was preceded in death by an uncle, Mike Cogan and paternal grandparents, Jack L. and Eileen G. Edwards.
He was a 1987 graduate of Altoona Area High School.
Scott was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Persian Gulf War where he received the Purple Heart Medal after surviving a Scud missile attack.
He was employed as a truck driver for New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company with over fifteen years’ service.
He enjoyed archery and four-wheeling.
Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. Monday November 6, 2017 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona and from 10-11a.m. Tuesday November 7, 2017 at East End United Methodist Church, 405 East Hudson Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Beth Pyles officiating. Interment will be made at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Central Pennsylvania National Guard and Veterans Association, PO Box 493, Altoona, PA 16603.
