Walter J. “Zap” Zapotoczny, Sr., 73 of Altoona died Sunday evening March 3, 2019 at his residence.
He was born November 27, 1945 in Altoona a son of the late Michael and Catherine (Vaughn) Zapotoczny. He married Lynn M. Erndl on July 28, 1984. She preceded him in death May 28, 2016.
Surviving are three children, daughter April Delano (Josh) of Shelbyville, IN; daughter Betsy Barron of Malvern; son Walter J. Zapotoczny, II of Altoona; three grandchildren, Aaron Martyn, Jack Barron and Reese Barron; siblings, Michael Zapotoczny (Nora) of Hollidaysburg; Dorothy Cavalet of Hollidaysburg; Regina Boston of Altoona; Paul Zapotoczny of Altoona; Tony Zapotoczny of California; mother-in-law Grace Erndl of Altoona; and sister-in-law Debra Sadler of Altoona.
Walter was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna and Mary and a brother, Tom.
Mr. Zapotoczny attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Altoona.
He was the owner/operator of Zap’s Auto Repair for over thirty-five years and had previously been employed by the railroad.
Zap enjoyed bowling, fishing, the outdoors, tennis, racket ball, and most especially time spent with his family.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday March 8, 2019 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona.
