William Kinser Obituary

 

            William L. “Bill” Kinser, 79, died early Saturday morning February 16, 2019 at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona.

            He was born January 20, 1940 in Altoona a son of the late Leonard C. and Mary Louise (Lupfer) Kinser. He married Carol A. Long on March 26, 1960 in Altoona.

            Surviving are his wife Carol of Altoona; three children, Tamara K. Taylor (Mike) of Fresno, CA; Sharon L. Gochnour (Rick) of Brooks Mills; Mark A. Kinser (Christy) of Bedford; nine grandchildren, Kira Taylor; Brandon Taylor; Kyle Gochnour; Katlyn Ratchford (Jason); Tiffany Nedimyer (Jason); Josh Kinser (Gabby); Cory Kinser (Alexandra); Emma Joy; Skyla; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother Michael Kinser (Phyllis); brother Robert Kinser (Candy); sister Rebecca Kinser; and sister-in-law Carol L. Kinser.

            Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy C. Kinser.

            Mr. Kinser was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, Altoona Ward.

            He was a 1957 graduate of Altoona High School and a 1961 graduate of a piano tuning school in Clearfield.

            Bill retired as a self-employed piano technician in 2015 following over 55 years’ service.

            He enjoyed playing and tuning pianos, target shooting, hiking and photography.

            He was a member of the Blair County Game, Fish and Forestry Association (Riggles Gap Sportsman’s Club); the Bellwood Sportsmen’s Association; and the Hollidaysburg Consolidated Sportsmen’s Association.

            Bill tuned piano for many concerts at the Mishler Theatre and the Altoona Symphony Orchestra. He also tuned piano for Henry Mancini, Roger Williams, Ferrante & Teicher and many other famous musical artists. Bill was also a piano instructor of tuning for 10 years  for Mount Aloysius College.

            Friends will be received from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday February 19, 2019 and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday February 20, 2019 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Bishop Matt Prine presiding.

            Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, Altoona Ward, (Humanitarian Fund), 778 Brush Mountain Road, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 or the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 East Pleasant Valley Boulevard, Altoona, PA 16602.
