Dean held numerous jobs while attending high school to help provide for his family. He graduated from Bellwood-Antis and went into business with his father selling junk cars. This business grew and became the main source of income for the family for the next 40 years.

He used his professional engineering license for the next 30 years working at PennDOT & PennDER. Additionally, he owned and operated his own auto related business for 34 years.

He was active in his local church as a teacher, youth leader, deacon, & trustee, and became chairman of Christian Business Men’s Committee in Altoona & Harrisburg. Dean loved to travel and visited all 50 states, many countries in Europe and even walked on the Great Wall of China -a lifelong dream. He enjoyed camping and taking roads, he had never traveled before. He shared a great amount of time with his grandchildren creating memories that will always be cherished.

He married the love of his life Iva Kirkpatrick with whom he shared the past 66 years. He is survived by his wife, their daughter Deana, George her husband and their children Craig and Emma; and their son Kirk, Bev his wife, their sons Joel, his wife Julie, and their children Jolene and Joy; and Johnathan, his fiancée Kelly and her daughter Bria. Of Dean’s 11 siblings, five remain: Sarah, James, Betty Jane, Richard, and Gary. Six siblings preceded him in death: Jackie, Robert, Ernest, Shirley, Audrey, and Harold.
