Betty Melhorn Obituary

            Betty Lou Melhorn, 91, died unexpectedly Friday morning January 15, 2021 at Hillview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Altoona.

            She was born March 11, 1929 in Glen White a daughter of the late Albert R. and Dorothy (Grove) Nagle. She married Kenneth J. Melhorn on May 31, 1947 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Gallitzin. He preceded her in death in 2002.

            Surviving are three children, daughter, Donna M. Grodis (Francis) of Gallitzin, daughter, Catherine L. Yagoda (Barry) of Lilly, son, Michael J. Melhorn (Cathy Reeseman) of Altoona; six grandchildren, Heather Grodis, Joseph Grodis, Jesse Grodis, Justin Yagoda (Stephanie), Jeremy Yagoda; and Mark Yagoda; eight great grandchildren, Nichole, Carly, Luke, Billy, Caleb, Elijah “Eli”, Sara, and Brady; three great great grandchildren, Payton, Lydia, and Sophie; a special friend, Kathy Lynch of Ashville; and numerous extended family members.

            Betty was preceded in death by a son, David K. Melhorn; a grandson, Jason Grodis; sisters, Lillian Kutyba, Irene Melhorn, and Peggy Melhorn; and a brother, Homer Nagle.

            She retired as a dialysis technician from the Altoona Hospital following over twenty years’ service.

            Betty enjoyed gambling, casino trips, bus trips, crocheting, and baking.

            She was a former member of the Cesare Battisti Club in Altoona.

            A memorial service is planned to be held at a future date.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations please be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 East Pleasant Valley Boulevard, Altoona, PA 16602.
