Carol Ann Hughes, 78 went to be with the Lord early Friday morning March 26, 2021 at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona.
She was born February 14, 1943 in Altoona a daughter of the late Leahman A. Hughes and Mary Catherine Sipos.
Surviving are three sisters: Mary Metcalf and Gloria J. Floyd both of Cincinnati, OH, and Joanna Hughey of Dysart; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold James Hughes; a sister, Priscilla Hughes-Stern; four half-sisters: Helen Chalfant, Dorothy Yannone, Phyllis Whisner and Naomi Stanford; and a half-brother, Edward J. Hughes; and her kitties, Maggie and Angel K.
She was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School.
Carol Ann was a member of the Brethren in Christ Church.
She retired as a home health aide following many years’ service and she previously was employed by G.C. Murphy, Co. as an assistant manager. Earlier in life, Carol Ann worked alongside her father at L.A. Hughes Used Furniture and Antiques.
Carol Ann loved spending time with her family and friends, always the first one there for anyone in need. She was a care-giver for her parents until their deaths. Carol Ann enjoyed her record collection, her kitty “Vinny”, reading the Bible, attending church, and all holidays.
She was a volunteer for Contact Altoona from 2004-2012 and the Blair Senior Services, Meals-on-Wheels program; and she also taught the Beginners Sunday school class and served as superintendent of the junior department for many years.
There will be no viewing or funeral service.
Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park.
