Carol L. Kinser, 70 of Altoona died Friday evening December 30, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness.
She was born August 22, 1952, in Altoona a daughter of the late John C. “Red” and Christine M. (Harlan) Maitland. She married Timothy C. Kinser on July 14, 1972, in Cumberland, MD. He preceded her in death November 27, 2008.
Surviving are four children, daughter Jennifer Kinser Shaffer of Altoona, daughter Suzanne L. “Suzie” Merrick (Jeremy) of Charlotte, NC, son Brian J. Kinser (Heather) of Altoona, daughter Alissa A. Fellows (Jake) of Idaho Falls, ID; nine grandchildren, Brenden Shaffer, Heidi Merrick, Addison Fellows, Lucas Kinser, Wyatt Merrick, Beckham Fellows, Landon Kinser, Levi Kinser, and Claire Fellows; a sister, Joann Beck of Hollidaysburg; and numerous extended family members.
Carol was preceded in death by a brother, David J. Maitland, and a sister, Eleanor Kraft.
Mrs. Kinser was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Altoona Ward.
She was a 1970 graduate of Altoona Area High School, and a 1973 graduate of the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing.
Carol retired as a registered nurse November 25, 2014, following 41 years’ service. She had been employed by the Altoona Hospital, and before that, by the former Mercy/Bon Secours Hospital.
She enjoyed traveling, collecting Eeyore’s, cross stitch, crocheting, anything to do with Disney, including movies and parks, but most of all, she enjoyed spoiling her many grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday January 4, 2023, and 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 5, 2023, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Bruce Erb officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
