Charles R. "Chuck" Grove

Charles R. “Chuck” Grove, 63 of Altoona died Wednesday morning June 10, 2020 at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born September 25, 1956 in Altoona a son of Earl Rodger “Umpy” and Margaret E. (Gensamer) Grove. He married Doreen J. Jacobs on June 23, 1989 in Winchester, VA.

Surviving are his wife, Doreen; two children, daughter Jaime Friedenberger (Karl); son Charles Grove Jr.; three stepchildren; Rebecca Lidwell (Adam); Wendi Gensamer (Mike); John Schimminger; ten grandchildren, Tyler Lidwell (Bethany), Morgan Lidwell, Kody Schimminger, Mykah Schimminger, McKayla Schimminger, Nicole Berkheimer, Alicia Friedenberger, Isaac Grove, Larissa Grove and Cory Grove all of Altoona; three great grandchildren, Conor, Ryker and Adalynn; a sister Bonnie Porta of York; a brother E. Randy Grove (Susan) and a sister Tammy Cooney (Thomas) both of Altoona.

Chuck was preceded in death by a son, Michael E. Grove on June 22, 1997.

Mr. Grove was a member of Second United Methodist Church, Altoona.

He was a 1976 graduate of Altoona Area High School.

Chuck retired as a partsman for Union Tank Car Company after 36 years of service.

He was a member of Mountain Lodge #281, F. & A. M.

He was a “Jack of All Trades” and enjoyed helping others.

Friends will be received from 2-5 p.m. Sunday June 14, 2020 and 10-11 a.m. Monday June 15, 2020 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday with Pastor Brian Sandell officiating.

Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
