Clifford A. “Cliffy” Shumaker, 88, of Altoona, died early Thursday morning, April 22, 2021, at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona.
He was born in Altoona on December 13, 1932, the son of the late Edward and Hazel (Bower) Shumaker. He married Catharine M. “Cathy” Ostrander on Aug. 20, 1983, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, Cathy; eight children: C. David Shumaker, Joreen D. Conkel (Clay), Michele L. Young (Larry) and Kristina M. Vanlanot, all of Indianapolis, Ind.; Kandy L. Weidlich and Christopher J. Aikens both of Altoona; Stephen S. Shumaker (Katherine) of New Castle, Ind.; and Maggie M. Gray (Timothy), of Angola, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Foster of Greencastle; a brother, Harland Shumaker (Harriett) of Altoona; a sister-in-law, Ann Lechner of Altoona; two special nieces: Alyssa Conrad and Sarah Hormanski; and numerous extended family members.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings.
Mr. Shumaker retired as a driver for Smith Transportation following 20 years’ service.
Cliff was a member of Trans4mation Church where he was named “Lay Person of the Year.” He was also a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society.
Cliffy enjoyed woodworking, small engine repair, hunting and playing pool. He was also a collector and keeper of unique antiques.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
