Cora Alverta Thayer, 82 of Altoona died Friday afternoon December 3, 2021, at UPMC Altoona following a lengthy illness.
She was born May 17, 1939 in Altoona a daughter of the late James Karl and Cora E. (Blackie) Biddle. She married Richard H. Thayer on September 21, 1996 at Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona.
Surviving are her husband, Richard; two sons, Terry B. Mentzer (Tina Wagner), and Steven F. Mentzer (Rebecca) all of Altoona; step-daughter, Linda Ricker (Mike) of Hollidaysburg; step-son, Mark Thayer (Mary) of Altoona; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren with two expected soon; and three sisters, Marjorie Bartow, Thelma Seilhamer, and Nancy Spencer (Dewayne).
Cora was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Patterson, and three brothers, James, Wayne, and Francis Biddle, and a step-son, John Thayer.
Mrs. Thayer was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Altoona.
She was employed as a sales representative and trainer for Avon for over 50 years and was awarded for being the leading local representative. Cora had also been employed for numerous years at the former Hollidaysburg State Hospital in the Dietary Department, and was also employed for a time at the former Kmart Grill.
She enjoyed cake decorating.
Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday December 9, 2021, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. with Vance Hart officiating.
Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
