David M. Hoover

            David M. Hoover, 80 of Altoona died early Saturday morning August 27, 2022, at Guardian Healthcare, Altoona.

            He was born May 21, 1942, in Altoona a son of the late William D. and Henrietta C. (Martin) Hoover. He married Linda L. Watchey on January 31, 1976, in Altoona.

            Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Linda; a daughter Jessica L. Hoover of Altoona; two brothers, Edward Hoover (Janice) of Altoona, and Kevin Hoover (Nancy) of Kentucky; two sisters, Donna Blair, and Dorothy Stayer (Richard) both of Altoona; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Martin of Altoona.

            David was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Merrill “Pepper”, and Robert Hoover, and a sister, Clara Lindsay "Cookie" Whetstine.

            Mr. Hoover was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata.

            He was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School.

            David was a U.S. Army veteran serving with the Army Airbourne division.

            He retired as a Safety Supervisor from Norfolk Southern Railroad following 46 years’ service.

            He enjoyed gunsmithing, golfing, hunting, fishing, and bowling.

            David was a member of Hiram Lodge #616, Free and Accepted Masons; a member of Jaffa Shrine where he belonged to the Jaffa Oriental Band unit, and the Legion of Honor unit; he also was a member of the Jaffa Ushers. David was a member of the Juniata VFW (Fort Apache), and he was a lifetime member of the United Veterans Association (UVA).

            Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today Tuesday August 30, 2022, and 10-11 a.m. tomorrow Wednesday August 31, 2022, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Elizabeth Hess officiating.

            Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
