Donald Beatty Obituary

     Donald A. Beatty, 91, of Altoona, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, September 5, 2021, at his residence.

     He was born November 4, 1929 in Altoona, a son of the late Clair A. and Alma L. (Shinafelt) Beatty. On June 16, 1951, he married the former Shirley M. Vaughn. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2011.

     Surviving are five children: Richard Beatty (Nancy) of Bellwood, Debra Harper (Rodney) of Eldorado, Ronald Beatty (Kathie) of Altoona, Wendy Cowan (Robert) of Altoona and Kevin Beatty (Trina) of New Cumberland; 10 grandchildren: Justin Beatty (Sumer), Scott Harper (Samantha), Heidi Wills, Tracey Davis (Justin), Nathan Beatty, Jonathan Beatty (Shauna), Aimie Astore (Joey), Alyssa Hagerty (Billy), Angela Cochran (Matthew) and Brandi McCracken (Tyler); 14 great-grandchildren: Spencer Beatty, Megan Harper, Ryan Harper, Ariana Beatty, Addison Beatty, Brenden Beatty, Camden Beatty, Jase Cochran, Dylan Cope, Katelyn Astore, Grafton Astore, Vera Astore, Gracie Hagerty and Aiden Hagerty; two brothers, David Beatty (Nancy) and Walter Beatty (Becky) all of Florida; two sisters-in-law: Shirley Beatty of Hollidaysburg and Cathy Beatty in Indiana; a brother-in-law, Michael Smiach of South Fork; and numerous extended family members.

     He was preceded in death by two brothers: Richard and Robert Beatty; and a sister, Linda Smiach.

     Mr. Beatty was a member of Grace Bible Church.

     He was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Germany serving during the Korean conflict.

     Donald retired as the owner/operator of Beatty’s Carpet Cleaners and had previously been employed by Benzel Bretzel Bakery and McMahon’s Dairy.

     Donald enjoyed bowling, playing cards, motorcycles and the San-Tones Orchestra. He also enjoyed dancing with and leading the Horseshoe Seniors and the Golden Nuggets. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends.

     Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, September 10, 2021, at Grace Bible Church, Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Pastor Randy Zitterbart officiating. The viewing and funeral service will be held outdoors at the church due to Covid-19 concerns and it is requested social distancing protocols please be followed.

     Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park.

     In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations please be made to Horseshoe Seniors dance club, 309 - 26th Avenue, Altoona, PA 16601.
