Donald E. “Don” Grove, 81 of Altoona died early afternoon December 30, 2020 at UPMC Altoona following a brief illness.
He was born April 28, 1939 in Altoona a son of the late R. Ray and Blanche A. (Wood) Grove. He married Jacqueline K. Rabold on July 1, 1961 in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, Jackie; two children, daughter Tracy E. Clarke of Parkesburg and son Shem T. Grove of Altoona; four grandchildren, Shem T. Grove, II (Casey) of Altoona; Sarissa L. Grove of Altoona; Robert B. Clarke of Philadelphia; and Amanda D. Clarke of Kennett Square; three great grandchildren, Amarra L. Grove, Shem T. Grove, III, and Declan O. Hofle; a sister, Judith Edmundson (Gary, Sr.) of Greenwood, Altoona; and numerous extended family members.
Don was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert, Jack, William, Richard, and Stephen Grove.
Mr. Grove was a member of East End United Methodist Church, Altoona where he served as a trustee for many years.
He was a 1958 graduate of Altoona High School.
Don retired as a store manager for Sherwin-Williams in June 2000 following forty-one years’ service.
He was an active Mason for over 50 years in the following: Hiram Lodge #616 Free and Accepted Masons; Valley of Altoona, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite bodies where he received the Meritorious Service Award (MSA); Jaffa Shrine where he belonged to the Chanters and served as the Jaffa Recorder from 2013-2015; a member of Altoona Court #70 Royal Order of Jesters; and a member of the former Jaffa Hillbilly’s.
He enjoyed wood-working when he was able.
A private viewing and funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with Rev. Fred Hickok and Rev. R. Samuel Wachter officiating.
Interment will be made at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
