Donald Francis Stanley

            Donald Francis Stanley, 80 of Altoona died Monday afternoon January 7, 2019 at his residence.

            He was born May 11, 1938 in Gallitzin a son of the late Thomas and Ophelia (Keever) Stanley. He married Karen L. Hurm on May 29, 1965 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona.

            Surviving are his wife, Karen; three children, daughter Teri Stanley-Potter (Randy); David Stanley (Melodie); Michael Stanley (Belinda) all of Altoona; five grandchildren, Sarah, Cassara, Abbigail, Lexy and Kaylee; and a great granddaughter, McKenzie; two sisters, Shirley Knee (Chad) of Duncansville; Dorothy Cooper (John) of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

            Donald was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas “Lefty” Stanley and a sister, Jo Ann Brinzey.

            Mr. Stanley was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Altoona.

            He was a 1956 graduate of Gallitzin High School and also served an apprenticeship with local 126.

            Donald retired as a lineman from Penelec in 1997 after 23 years service.

            He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and also gardening and winemaking.

            He was a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society.

            Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (noon) Friday January 11, 2019 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m.
