Dorothy Jane “Pop Pop” Liebegott, 98 of Garvey Manor, Hollidaysburg formerly of Altoona died Monday afternoon March 30, 2020 at UPMC Altoona.
She was born December 31, 1921 in Altoona a daughter of the late Raymond L. and Marie K. (Miller) Stitzel. She married Thayne P. Liebegott in June 1941 in Winchester, VA. He preceded her in death June 8, 1988.
Surviving are two children, daughter Sharon D. Covert and son Dean P. Liebegott (Lory) all of Altoona; five grandchildren, Jack S. Covert of New Cumberland; Todd J. Covert (Jessie), Dana L. Fraundorfer (Jim), Kimberly D. Covert (fiancé Greg Sloan), and Dawn M. Bare (Tom) all of Altoona; thirteen great grandchildren, Shannon and Zack; TJ, Seth and Holly; Matt, Ryan and Brianne; David and Cori; and Allison, Emily and Brad; four great great grandchildren, Riley, Kailyn, Madi and Dawson; and numerous extended family.
Dorothy was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jack D. Covert on May 5, 2019.
Mrs. Liebegott was a life member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona and, until her death, was the church’s oldest living member.
She was a 1939 graduate of Altoona High School.
She retired from Valley View Home in 1985 following 20 years’ service.
Pop Pop loved spending time with her entire family, including her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and she also enjoyed telling stories about her family. She was an avid Bingo player and enjoyed shopping, music and art.
The family would like to thank the staff of Garvey Manor for making it Dorothy’s home for the past three years. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
There will be no public viewing.
A future Celebration of Life is planned to be held at Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona when circumstances permit.
Interment will be made at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
