Edwin Lawrence “Ed” Gochnour, 86 of Altoona died Friday evening November 9, 2018 at Maybrook Hills following a brief illness.
He was born April 30, 1932 in Altoona a son of the late Herbert Lawrence and Emma Florence (Kuhn) Gochnour.
He married Marylou Winskey on May 23, 1953 in Winchester, VA. She preceded him in death October 5, 1998.
Surviving are three children, daughter Joann Lynn Gochnour and her wife, Heidi Keith of Whitehall, MD; daughter Cheryl Jane Shuff and her husband, Timothy of Waxhaw, NC; son Richard Alan Gochnour and his wife, Sharon of Brooks Mills; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
Mr. Gochnour was a member of the former Otterbein United Methodist Church, Juniata.
Ed was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of Corporal.
He retired as a machinist from S.K.F. Industries in 1987 after 30 years’ service.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family. When he was younger, he also enjoyed hunting, trap shooting and fishing.
Ed was a Past Commander twice over and a member of V.F.W. Post #8685 (Fort Apache) in Juniata; and he was also a member of the Blair County Game, Fish & Forestry Association.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Monday November 12, 2018 and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday November 13, 2018 at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Brian Sandell officiating.
Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Mending Hearts Animal Rescue, PO Box 97, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
