Ernest Lonsinger Obituary

Ernest Alan Lonsinger passed away unexpectedly in the early hours of January 31, 2022. He was born January 23, 1949, in Altoona, PA, to the late Edward W. and Dora M. (Weld) Lonsinger.  He was a kind and loving partner to his spouse and an exemplary father. He was generous and thoughtful to all who knew him.

Ernest is survived by his wife Janice Lonsinger; his son, Scott Lonsinger (Julie); six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  He is also survived by brothers: Roger, Gordon, and Gary Lonsinger and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by a sister Joyce Mickel and brothers Ed and Dorsey Lonsinger.

He was a 1967 alumni of Altoona High School and went on to Williamsport trade school.  Ernest retired from Local 19 Sheet Metal Workers Union after 35 years in the industry. He was an active member of Faith United Church of Christ where he especially enjoyed playing Santa Claus.  Ernest also enjoyed woodworking and flower gardening.

Friends will be received 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, February 7, 2022, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona. A Celebration of Life is planned to be held at a future date at Faith United Church of Christ.

Ernest’s final wish is for you to feed the squirrels in your yard and watch the birds at your bird feeder.

If tears could build a stairway

And memories were a lane,

We would walk right up to Heaven

And bring you back again.

No farewell words were spoken

No time to say goodbye,

You we’re gone before we knew it

And only God knows why.

Our hearts still ache in sadness

And secret tears still flow,

What it meant to lose you

No one can even know.

But now we know you want us

To mourn you no more,

To remember all the happy times

Life still has much in store.

Since you’ll never be forgotten

We pledge to you today,

A Hallowed place within our hearts

Is where you’ll always stay.
