Galen G. Murray
January 18, 1940 ~ November 27, 2023 (age 83) 83 Years Old
Galen G. Murray, 83, of Altoona had “his girls” and his wife (Sally) at his side when he passed on Monday afternoon November 27, 2023. Galen and Sally were married 60 years last December. (December 8, 1962)
He was the best of us and never met a stranger. A phenomenal man who loved talking to anyone and always had a friendly greeting for everyone. Watching his kids and grandkids play sports, especially softball and baseball, brought him great joy. But his biggest love was his family, extended family, and his friends, coast to coast. In that, he was richly blessed.
He retired from the railroad (PRR/Conrail) in 2000 after 32 years of service as a welder and boilermaker. He was a master craftsman, and his cabinetry and furniture were beyond compare. For many years, he volunteered and served as chief for the Grandview Volunteer Fire Company.
He was the ninth of ten children and is survived by his youngest brother, Lowell, of Altoona. He leaves behind his four girls and their families: Denise Murray of Arizona, Cheri Himes of South Carolina, Julie Smith and Lisa Murray-Geibel, both of Altoona; eight grandchildren, Joshua and Ben Himes, Dominic and Christian Amato, Jasmine Smith, Sebastian Kane, Sckylaur Kane, and Coleton Geibel.
There will be no services, at his request.
In lieu of flowers, his wish was to have those who want to give, to support their local veteran and/or volunteer firefighter associations.
