Gary Lee Weston

            Staff Sergeant Gary Lee Weston, 72 of Tyrone died early Thursday morning December 1, 2022, at UPMC Altoona following an extended illness.

            He was born March 28, 1950, in Altoona a son of the late Edward Ernest and Betty Mae (Wolfe) Weston. He married Deborah K. Grum on November 27, 1970, in Altoona.

            Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Deborah; three children, daughter, Lori L. Knox (William, Jr.) of Altoona, son, Stephen E. Weston (Dawn Patterson) of Williamsburg, son, Brian T. Weston of Altoona; nine grandchildren, Dylan Wilt (Victoria), Bridget Spencer (Graham), Christopher Wilt, Dustin Knox (Amber Spino), Tank Weston (Angelica), Rebecca Knox (Chad Holland), Michael Weston, Scott Weston (Ariel Noel), and Mylie Stiver; ten great grandchildren; a brother, Edward T. Weston (Sharen) of Hollis, SC; and numerous extended family members.

            Gary was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary L. Weston, Jr. on September 13, 1972.

            Mr. Weston attended First Church of God, Lakemont.

            He was a 1968 graduate of Altoona Area High School, and then graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in Electronics.

            Gary was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving as Avionics Guidance and Control Systems Instructor and Technician. He, in fact, wrote the training program that is still in use today.

            He loved spending time with his entire family. He enjoyed fishing, camping, being outdoors, tv repair, and going on road trips (especially with his family on Sunday afternoons).

            He was a life member of the Bavarian Aid Society, and a member of the Elks.

            Gary loved animals of all kinds, caring for many over the years, including wolves and mountain lions.

            Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday December 7, 2022, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home, Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Richard Cox officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
