Harry Ritz Obituary

Harry passed in peace Monday, surrounded by family, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on June 29, 1940, to Anna Marie Ritz and Harry Hess. After Marie's passing in 1943, he was raised by his grandparents Harry and Rose Hess until they passed in 1949. He was in foster care until his Aunt June and Uncle George Hess took him in as a teen.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jane (Zitsch), whom he met when he was 13; daughters Donna (Kent), Debbie, and Diana (Jeffry); 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and sisters Sue (Bill) and Mary (George). He was predeceased by siblings Paul, Lil, Patty, Laura, Don, Jim, and baby Jack.

Harry honorably served in the US Army from 1958-1961.

In 2011, he retired as Assistant Maintenance Director at Garvey Manor. He enjoyed fishing, camping and running marathons in his younger years. He was a history buff, loved reading novels and biblical writings, and could fix anything. Above all, he was a loving husband, father and Pappy and cherished time spent with family.

In honor of the excellent care he received at Garvey Manor, donations in his memory can be directed to Garvey's Benevolent Care Fund, 1037 S Logan Blvd, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648. Services will be private.
